What happened on 21 May

No new cluster cases or deaths were reported by any IHR Focal Point in the 24-hour reporting window. The cumulative total remains at 11 cases comprising 9 confirmed and 2 probable, with 3 deaths. The MV Hondius disinfection at Rotterdam concluded on schedule, with the vessel transitioning to readiness checks ahead of the planned 13 June return-to-service date. The 18 Americans at Nebraska National Quarantine Unit and the smaller cohorts in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom remain in their respective monitoring or quarantine arrangements without new symptomatic presentations.

The cluster has effectively entered a monitoring-only phase. Significant new case identification depends on the trailing edge of the Andes virus incubation window, which can extend to six weeks from exposure; the last known onboard exposure event was approximately 11 May during the final phase of Tenerife disembarkation. The earliest realistic point at which the cluster can be considered closed is therefore approximately 22 June. Routine ECDC and WHO surveillance updates will continue at reduced cadence.
