Hantavirus surveillance for Germany.
Germany is endemic for Puumala virus (mild HFRS) and has occasional Dobrava-Belgrade cases in the south. The current Hondius-linked suspected case is unrelated to domestic endemic circulation.
Watch status. Germany has one suspected case (asymptomatic, evacuated for testing) linked to the Hondius cluster. Domestically, Puumala and Dobrava-Belgrade viruses produce sporadic HFRS cases.
The dominant hantavirus species in Germany is Andes. See the strain reference for detail on transmission, mortality and reservoir biology.
